So far, in this Dawn Of Purpose Blog series, we have looked at the idea that there are spheres of influence in society—and how God has a plan for each of them. In my upcoming posts, we will explore these spheres. I hope that, with this new understanding, you can step deeper into the place, and the purpose, that God has created you to fill.

Every journey begins with a first step. But what is that first step?

If you have read the book, Dawn Of Purpose, then you will know that Nora’s first step was a choice. It was the choice to be brave. Having a purpose driven life takes courage, and it took courage for Nora to take her first step over the wall. Her whole life, she was taught that all she needed was behind the wall. It must have been hard for her to believe that her purpose was out there, in the wild and dangerous lands. Nora’s action of going over the wall was hard. But she trusted the wind, and she chose to be brave.

So, what might this step look like for us, in the real world?

Think of each land that Nora went to as being like a sphere of influence. A system that governs how people think or operate. Nora visited different regions and encountered different problems. In her home town, the problem was religious thinking, which made many people gray-haired and miserable. It wasn’t until Nora was challenged by the wind, to find her purpose, that she realized there was more to life than that. 

Nora’s town reminds me of the church. It was a place which gave her safety, and values to live by. These things were good, valuable, and greatly needed in the places she visited. In my life, I found these same things in the church. I was taught to love like Jesus. I was trained in spiritual gifts. I think that many people will find similarities between Nora’s home town and the church—the sphere of religion. It is an important sphere, as we will explore throughout this series.

But in order to understand her town, Nora had to leave it. She had to go over the wall. For as long as she stayed in her town, she was blind to the gifts it had given her. But when she left—then she was able to solve problems, change circumstances, and even change lives! Only then did she understand how well her town had equipped her for the work that needed to be done.

This is the Dawn of Purpose.

This is the message that set me free, after so many years of serving in the church, trying my hardest to live the life that God wanted me to live. Like Nora, I discovered that there was a world outside the church that needed help. I learned that God has important assignments for us, out there, and that He is calling us to fulfill these assignments. God is awakening and inviting each one of us. He wants us to take our unique place. He has prepared us for this time! We can take hold of these promises with joy, bringing transformation into every sphere of society, and partnering with God as He creates whole regions of light.
